Places You'll Visit
The Egyptian Museum sits on Tahrir Square in Cairo and opened to the public on 15 November 1902, in a neoclassical building designed by French architect Marcel Dourgnon. Its collection exceeds 170,000 artifacts spanning the Predynastic period to the Greco-Roman era, including many objects from Tutankhamun's tomb, discovered by Howard Carter in 1922.
Tutankhamun's tomb (KV62), located in the Valley of the Kings near Luxor, Egypt, was discovered by British archaeologist Howard Carter on November 4, 1922. Unlike most pharaonic tombs, it was found largely intact, containing over 5,000 artifacts, making it the only near-complete royal burial ever recovered from ancient Egypt.
