Místa, která navštívíte
Tunis is a small village on the northern shore of Lake Qarun in Egypt's Faiyum Governorate, near the Wadi Al-Hitan fossil site. Since the 1980s, when Swiss potter Evelyne Porret founded a pottery school there, it has grown into an artist and pottery community, with numerous studios and galleries producing hand-thrown ceramics amid palm groves and mudbrick architecture.
Wadi Al-Hitan, in the Western Desert about 150 kilometers southwest of Cairo, preserves hundreds of fossilized skeletons of Archaeoceti, an extinct early whale suborder, dating from the late Eocene roughly 37 million years ago. The fossils, including Basilosaurus and Dorudon specimens, document the evolution of whales from land mammals to ocean dwellers, earning UNESCO World Heritage status in 2005.
